It was cool and quiet in Brewster today.

Soggy/Foggy Cape Cod

May 26, 2013

We drove to the Cape on Friday night along with thousands of other folks heading here for the long Memorial Day weekend. It took us an hour longer than usual to make the trip, not too bad. We were greeted with rain and wind, but after a late night pizza at Laurino’s, all was well.

Saturday morning brought more rain and some fog but by the afternoon we had dry weather, a few minutes of sun and a partial blue sky. We spent the day visiting all the interesting looking places on Route 6A in Brewster that we normally just drive by on our way to the beach.

We loved Handcraft House. Jewelry, pottery, paintings, wood and metal crafts for both inside and out.

Our favorite was the Stringe Gallery where we spent some time talking to the owner and admiring the backyard behind the store. Tom Stringe does all the oil and watercolor paintings. They were beautiful and I recognized several local scenes. He is a self-taught artist who picked up a paintbrush one day and found that he could paint. What a gift!

We ended the afternoon with a walk on the beach. Cold, windy, and it started raining again but it was beautiful as always.

For dinner we went to the old Ardeo’s resturant, now Morelli’s Taverna on Underpass Road. The interior has not changed, and the food was very good.

Great day. Happy to be here.

Brewster (and everywhere else) in Bloom

April 28, 2013

This is the Brewster in Bloom weekend — blooming trees, flowers and plants everywhere.

The weather has certainly improved since the last time I was here. It’s a bit more crowded, but still plenty of empty seats if you want to come and enjoy the view, or have the beach all to yourself.

We’re Back!

March 26, 2013

We are back at the Cape for the first time in a very long time and hoping that it is the first of many, many happy summer days here this year.  All the Cape towns we visited were very quiet, but there were definitely signs that summer is coming, as shown in this picture of a new store set to open in a few weeks on Main Street.

The beaches are deserted but still as beautiful as ever.

The folks at the Brewster General Store are certainly ready for Spring…

The End of the Season

November 28, 2011

When we left the Wild Goose in Chatham at about 6:00 pm on Saturday, I noticed that, in addition to the white lights up and down Main Street, there were still flowers blooming outside many of the stores. It was a warm weekend, temperatures in the 60s. If only the rest of the winter would be this nice!

Another beautiful weekend at the Cape brought crowds to Kate Gould Park in Chatham for the second annual Oktoberfest.  The Pumpkin People display was sponsored by town merchants.
